Single or double granite pedestals can also be purchased from stone masons (who apply to us for approval and a permit).

We have wonderful examples of organic styles of memorials, and how to create a plot in the style of a garden, from our time in Scandinavia. Please ask us, to have a look, for inspiration (in line with the direction of the whole cemetery as a welcoming public garden).

All perpetual cemetery leases are transferable (via a form with us) and non-refundable.

The Cemetery Authority can only take instructions regarding an existing plot, from the current interment right holder.

These rights can be transferred if required (via a form with us).

TERMS regarding MONUMENTS & MEMORIALS

All botanicals and memorials for graves and tributes are requested to be made from natural materials and foam free (a micro plastic); fresh or dried flowers only…no synthetic fabric or plastic flowers please (to help us care for the environment). Plants are very welcome!

All memorials, and any cemetery work, are to be approved by the Curator & Legal Cemetery Authority, Hope Lovelock Deane.

Memorials made from natural materials (eg. stone, wood and slate) are welcome. Birdbaths, garden seating (including logs or stones), lizard baths etc. are welcome as memorials (via consultation with Curator).

As we are creating a garden-like cemetery, we request graves and ash areas to be non-built up and to use only a memorial (if required) and plantings, if it is wished for a site to be marked in any way. All unmarked graves will be planted out, over time, as part of the garden…

Families are welcome to plant out their site by request, and with approval, within three-six months of an interment, otherwise our gardening team will plant out their site plot/ interment site in keeping with the section of the garden it is located in. We are planting the site in (loose) zones to reflect the waves of settlement of the area; Indigenous, Anglo-Celtic, Mediterranean, & Multi-cultural, linked by locally endemic species.

Please note:

Caretaking of burial plots, ash plots and monuments / memorials, is the RESPONSIBILITY OF FAMILIES…or leaseholders.

Any unkempt areas will be tidied by the cemetery (or planted out sensitively, as part of the garden) over time.

Book a phone chat or a cemetery visit now, to secure one of the last remaining interment places in the oldest cemetery in McLaren Vale…
